Got Cards?...Frame ,em!

We have so many beautiful choices of wall art here at The Gift Shop, from watercolors to oils, photography to collage, bright to pastel, and realistic to abstract. What may interest you is that many of our 2-D artists also recreate their art onto cards, and are perfect for framing all on their own.

Flowers Galore at The Gift Shop

Spring is finally here! Wouldn't  it be a great time to freshen up your home with some lovely flower art? We have some beautiful choices here at The Gift Shop from artists Helena Kuttner-Giasson, Winnie Chrzanowski, Hilda Havlik, David Dinsdale, and Mary Tassone.

First are two paintings of spring flowers from Helena Kuttner-Giasson. So very pretty!

Gifts for your Garden and Wildlife at The Gift Shop

We have a few more days to go, but I think we are all ready to think Spring! That means more time outside. Here at The Gift Shop we have some fun and functional creations to add to your outdoor spaces that will brighten your gardens, and help wildlife.

Who doesn't love the sweet sound of wind-chimes? We have them created from glass and ceramic, each with their own special music.
First we have examples of chimes created from glass by Theresa Lowe. She uses fused stained glass, and beads attached to tree branches.

Next we have ceramic chimes from Nancy Garcia. She uses glazed ceramics, and glass beads, attached to branches for her pieces.

How about something special for the birds? Tom Need has created  Oriole feeders for these special birds. Orioles are attracted to the bright orange color of the feeder, and the sweet treats that you add to the glass feeding bowl.

The birds will also love to drink from one of these special bird-baths from Nancy Garcia. Each is fashioned from ceramic clay, glazed with a wildlife friendly glaze, and a sturdy branch to perch on.

If you have toads in your yard, they will want to adopt one of these toad houses from Nancy Garcia for their own. They are made from ceramic clay and come in small and large sizes.

New Artists bring fiber, wood, and home decor to The Gift Shop

This week we look at our new fiber, wood, and home decor artists. All five come to us from Christmas Market 2015.

First is Wanda Nowak. She has been very successful creating and selling her brightly lit Christmas decor, now she has brought us decorated lamps for the home. The lamp pictured would be so cute in a child's room.

Next we have three fiber artists, each with their own special flair.

Wendy Kwiecinski has a very versatile line of purses, backpacks, and "One-Eyed Monster" badge pulls. All her pieces are created from re-purposed fabrics, and up-cycled items.

Linda Pussehl sews a lovely line of purses in several sizes. Many designs can be selected to make sets.

The Anton Art Center Newsletter is now highlighting an "Artist of the Month", chosen from our Gift Shop artists. More recognition for the talented artists in our Gift Shop!

Here at The Gift Shop we have always offered a wonderful array of wall-art. This year we have 2D artists fresh from Christmas Market 2015 including: Abigail Davidson, Sandra DeBose-Howard, Roselyn Rhodes, Eric Simmons, and Kelly Wojdyla-Gray. We also welcome Kathryn Bruce, a 2D artist new to The Gift Shop.

Next is print artist Abigail Davidson. Her works have a fun, whimsical quality. She also creates greeting cards from her original designs.

Today, Friday Feb. 26, is the last day to see the current exhibitions,  Michigan Annual XLIII  in the main galleries, and Primary Color  in the Community Gallery on the second floor at Anton Art Center.

New Clay artists at The Gift Shop

We are so glad to have four new clay artists here at The Gift Shop! Robert Gilchrist and Anna Hughes have joined us from Christmas Market 2015, and Jeremy Brooks and Rosita Gendernalik are brand new to us.
Each artist brings their own techniques, styles, and ideas to their creations.

First is Robert Gilchrist. His bowls and vases are beautiful, and his glazing is wonderful!

Next is Anna Hughes. She has a unique take on the making of her ceramic bowls. They are, of course, lovely, but they also have a very organic feel and look to them. Anna embellishes her bowls with combinations of woven sweet grass, beads, feathers, and fibers.

Jeremy Brooks employs a very clever process to his porcelain jewelry. He extrudes tiny strands of clay and fashions them into knots for his special line of "Forget Me Knot" jewelry. The work is delicate, and the colors are vibrant. His necklaces, earrings, rings, and pins are offered.

Rosita Gendernalik is a well known clay artist in Northern Michigan. We are so happy that now she has her lovely pieces with us at The Gift Shop. Her signature style is so very eye-catching!
