"Artist of the Month" for May

Our "Artist of the Month" for May is photographer Hilda Havlik (HAV).

"I have always shown an interest in photos, initially by spending hours going through my parents' shoe box of pictures, and then gravitating toward coffee table books. I would examine the photos, and then find a story behind them.
To capture a moment in time and be challenged to create a photo-worthy image is an endless endeavor for me. There is always something to explore, anticipate, and watch until the right moment arrives. Its a fulfilling feeling to know 'I got it'!"

Here at The Gift Shop we have many examples of Hilda Havlik's work...prints, framed photographs, glass cutting boards, greeting cards, and framed tiles.

Birds and Butterflies

Birds and butterflies are  popular artistic themes. Here at The Gift Shop, our artists have created some lovely artworks with those subjects in mind.
This week we will look at the work of Kelly Wojdyla-Gray, Irma Reinboth, and Daren Dundee.

Kelly Wojdyla-Gray (WOJ) is a painter. Here are three of her framed, original watercolor bird portraits.

Irma Reinboth (REI) uses a paining method called "Wood Batik". The process calls for paint and dyes to be used directly onto wood. The results have a rich depth that allows the wood grain to show through.

Daren Dundee (DD) is a photographer and a collager. He often uses found objects to create 2D and 3D art.
Here is his framed 3D butterfly collage.

Lighthouses and Tulips

Looking around The Gift Shop I was struck by a couple of bright and recurring themes: lighthouses and tulips.
Lighthouses are iconic and nostalgic sights in Michigan. Patricia Petro (PETR) has created watercolor images of some well-known lighthouses. Here are three of her matted and framed original pieces.
"Fort Gratiot Lighthouse"

"Waugoshance Shoal Lighthouse"

"White Shoal Lighthouse"

Tulips will soon be blooming. Here at The Gift Shop they are in full-flower!
Mary Kelleher-Tassone (TASS) has painted and framed bright beautiful tulips on silk.

Helena Kuttler-Giasson (KUTT) has a series of hand painted flowers in her very distinctive style. Here is one with Dutch tulips.
